
Mdina is old capital city of Malta and its history goes back more than 5,000 years. Description : The cathedral museum houses a variety of different collections including a beautiful set of woodcut prints by Albrecht Dürer. It also exhibits an impressive cross-section of sacred art, famous paintings, coin collection, Roman antiquities and original documents from the time of the Inquisition.

Location : Vilhena Palace, St. Publius Square, Mdina.

Description : The museum is situated at Vilhena Palace, on the right when entering Mdina through Notabile Gate. The museum is divided in seven sections comprising both local and foreign collections. The sections are skeletal anatomy, birds, fish, shells, insects, fossils, and geology.

Description : Falson Palace, generally known as the Norman House, is the best-preserved medieval building in Mdina. Built in 1495, the palace was occupied by the first Grand Master in Malta, L'lsle Adam when the Knights arrived in Malta in 1530. Nowadays, it houses an extraordinarily rich collection of antiques including paintings, silver, furniture and armour.

Description : The present Mdina Cathedral was built Lorenzo Gafa in 1697 after the earthquake of 1693 which destroyed the original Norman structure built in the 12th century. It is built on the site where gover¬nor Publius was re ported to have met Saint Paul following his ship wreck off the Maltese coast. Publius eventually became the first Bishop of Malta. The Cathedral houses various art treasures, including inlaid marble gravestones belonging to Maltese aristocracy and impressive wall painting at the back of the cathedral depicting the shipwrecking of St. Paul on Malta.

Description : The church and convent of the Order of Carmelite monks was built in 1570 in the city of Rabat but in 1659 the Carmelite Fathers transferred their church and convent to the church of the Blessed Virgin Della Rocca in Mdina. The bells of this church signalled the upraising of the Maltese insurgents against the French in 1798.
